Prepared: report to class on time with ID, homework, writing utensil.
Respectful: use classroom appropriate language and tone; maintain acceptable volume and conversation in the classroom.
Involved: be an active member of the class i.e. aware and engaged.
Determined: use classroom time wisely and efficiently.
Enthusiastic: participate in class discussions, encourage others, share ideas, be optimistic and polite.
Homework/Make-up Work
Homework is expected on due date.
Make-up work will not be given at the end of a quarter.
If absent, see teacher for missed assignments.
Curriculum Highlights
Composition: informative, explanatory, and argumentative essays, prose narrative, and poetry.
Literature: “The Necklace”, The Most Dangerous Game”, The Gift of the Magi”, Mississippi Trial 1955, The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet.
Reading: plot structure, characterization, theme, tone, point of view, historical context, autobiography, and epic poetry.
Language: parts of speech, punctuation, capitalization, types of sentences, clauses, phrases, drama and poetry terminology, and figurative language.
Vocabulary: using context clues, roots, prefixes, and suffixes.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory. Much of our classroom time will be devoted to reading and discussing. Students need to be present to learn the material.
The school policy will be in effect for absences and tardies.
Grading
Grades will be based on the district grading scale.
A Note to Ponder:
We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have odd names, some are more popular than others, but they all have to learn to live in the same box.
